As Senior Vice President & General Counsel, Scott is responsible for the legal, corporate governance, and government relations functions for the Sun Life U.S. business group. Scott and his team have extensive experience in helping business leaders navigate a complex regulatory environment, and have advised on multiple successful partnerships and acquisitions that have helped transform the U.S. business.
Scott joined Sun Life more than 25 years ago, holding a series of roles of increasing responsibility in the law department before being named General Counsel. Prior to Sun Life, Scott served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and also worked as an associate at Latham & Watkins in Los Angeles and McDermott Will & Emery in Boston.
A strong advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, Scott leads Allies Acting for Change (AAC), a group of Sun Life U.S. employees working to create a more diverse and inclusive organization. Operating as an extension of the executive leadership team, the AAC is pursuing a series of initiatives to transform recruiting processes, leverage data, and enhance the employee experience.
Outside of work, Scott is an avid Boston sports fan and enjoys golfing and cycling along the New Hampshire coastline. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Cornell Law School.
